DIY Guide: How to re pressurise a Worcester RI boiler

Are you having problems with a Worcester RI boiler?

If you’re having problems with the heating efficiency in your home, your boiler may be telling you that it needs to be re-pressurised.

You can follow the steps provided by 24|7 Home Rescue below.

• Check the water pressure gauge on the front of the unit.

• If the indicator is in the red zone, the boiler will need to be re pressurised.

• Before doing anything, switch off the power supply to the boiler.

• Remove the tray at the bottom of the unit. On the other side of the tray you may find a white internal filling key.

• Remove the key and insert it into the black plastic filling manifold at the bottom of the unit, with the white arrows on the side of the key pointing towards the open padlock position.

• Then turn the key to the closed padlock position and make sure it is securely fitted.

• Turn the white plastic spindle nut anticlockwise.

• You should begin to hear water filling the heating system.

• Refer back to the water pressure gauge.

• Once the needle is in the green zone, between 1 and 2, slowly tighten the plastic spindle knob back up until you can hear the water stop.

• Then, turn the key back to the open padlock position.

• Cover the surface with newspapers or a towel.

• Remove the key – there may be a few drops of water.

• If you find that water continues to come out of the unit, make sure that the white plastic spindle knob is fully tightened.

• If your water pressure has gone up too high, exceeding 2 on the pressure gauge, you may need to bleed your radiators.

After doing so, you may need to come back to the Worcester boiler and repeat the process.
