And They’re Off! Amateur Runners from 24|7 Home Rescue Raise Over £1000 for Charity

A team of runners from 24|7 Home Rescue ran their socks off this Sunday – all in aid of charity, of course!

The team of 5, made up of both men and women of different ages, competed in the charity 10k run in order to raise funds for the hospice which provides dignified care and support for those with life limiting illnesses.

More than 450 people entered the popular race, now in its third year, which took place on Sunday 24^th January at Gaskell Motor Bodies, Great Harwood, with the team from 24|7 Home Rescue raising over £1100 to help support the worthwhile cause.

The race was started off by Hyndburn Mayor, Councillor Marlene Haworth who said: “We’re here at Gaskells in Hyndburn starting off the race to raise funds for East Lancashire Hospice. It’s been a marvellous turnout…It will raise thousands of pounds – a really worthwhile cause! I’m delighted to be here – I’m just sorry I couldn’t take part!”

The 10k was set over some tough terrain with the runners wading through mud, climbing hills and tackling uneven ground in order to make it to the finish line.

Official T-shirt sponsors of the event, the 24|7 Home Rescue team completed the race with a range of impressive finishing times from 46 minutes to 1 hour 7 minutes. Call centre operative, 18-year-old Brandon Hargeaves finished in an outstanding 46 minutes and was delighted to have beat his previous training time of 50 minutes.

Meanwhile, the company’s finance director, Gina Dobson, who also ran the race said: “It was an absolute pleasure to run for the company and raise a great amount for such a superb cause. I may even consider it doing it again next year – if my legs allow!”

Hospice fundraiser Kimberley Hall said it was a brilliant event. She said: “We were delighted to see the hundreds of runners all taking part in aid of the hospice. Whether people competed for their best time, or their goal was simply to complete the route, all the entrants came together to raise much needed funds, and we hope to raise over £10,000 for patient care.

Events like this simply couldn’t happen without the support of local businesses like 24|7 Home Rescue. Their sponsorship of the t-shirts allows every penny raised by their team of runners and all entrants to be used to care for our patients and their families. The 24 7 team raised an incredible £1,100 which will make a huge difference to hospice patients.”
