What Is Home Appliance Insurance and How Does It Work?

Home Appliance cover is a type of insurance that pays for the replacement and repair of your essential white goods if they break down or become damaged. This includes the major items in your kitchen, like ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, and freezers.

When you sign up for appliance insurance, you are covered against mechanical faults, electrical breakdowns, and accidental damage. If your appliance stops working, simply contact our 24-hour claims helpline and we will arrange for an engineer to assess and repair it. We can also contribute towards a replacement if the appliance is beyond repair. Subject to terms and conditions.

Is It Worth Getting Appliance Insurance?

For most people, yes. A single washing machine or oven repair in the UK can cost hundreds of pounds and without appliance breakdown cover, that bill becomes your responsibility. Home appliance insurance gives you financial protection against unexpected repair costs for your domestic appliances.

It covers mechanical faults, electrical breakdowns, and accidental damage, so when your appliance breaks down, you are not left dealing with the cost alone. For the price of a monthly premium, it is a practical way to avoid a large one-off expense. Many policies may include parts, labour and VAT on accepted claims with no hidden costs, and if your appliance is beyond repair you may also receive a contribution towards a replacement.

How Much Does Home Appliance Insurance Cost?

The cost of home appliance insurance depends on the type of appliance you want to cover, its age, and the level of protection you require. Some providers may also ask for proof of purchase, as an appliance’s original value can affect your premium and any replacement contribution.

At 24|7 Home Rescue, our white goods insurance are priced transparently with no hidden costs. Whenever you need kitchen appliance insurance for a single item or for multiple appliances, getting a quote takes just a few minutes. You can also choose your excess level, either £0 or £49, depending on your preference and the monthly premium that suits you best.

Should I Choose Home Appliance Insurance or an Extended Warranty?

With an extended warranty, cover is limited to a set period and tied to the manufacturer. Appliance insurance in the UK covers accidental damage and can be renewed annually, unlike a fixed-term warranty.

With appliance breakdown insurance, you are covered for as long as your policy remains active, unlike a fixed-term warranty which expires after a set period. Insurance for your white goods also gives you access to a 24-hour claims helpline and coverage across Mainland UK, benefits that a standard extended warranty does not include.

Choosing appliance insurance means longer-term, more flexible protection for your home appliances.

Appliance Insurance Explained

What does appliance insurance cover?

Appliance insurance from 24|7 Home Rescue covers the cost of repairs following mechanical and electrical breakdowns and accidental damage to your insured appliance, including parts, labour and VAT on accepted claims.

If our engineers assess your appliance as beyond economic repair and you have been continuously covered by us for at least 6 months, we will contribute towards a replacement. Subject to terms and conditions.

How can I get cheap home appliance insurance?

The best way to keep costs down is to take out a policy as soon as your appliance is purchased, as older appliances tend to cost more to cover. Paying monthly can also help spread the cost rather than facing a large one-off expense. At 24|7 Home Rescue, our appliance insurance is transparently priced, so you always know what you are paying for.

Can I cover multiple home appliances under one policy?

While we do not offer multi appliance insurance under a single policy, we have different policies for particular appliances. This is because each appliance has a unique price point and requires individual coverage.

Are all brands and types of appliances eligible for cover?

Most home appliances are eligible for cover provided they meet the policy requirements, including popular brands such as Samsung, Bosch, Whirlpool, Hotpoint and Beko.

Are there any restrictions on the age or condition of appliances that can be covered?

The appliance must be 7 years old or under to qualify for the cover and we don’t cover refurbished or second-hand appliance. Please be ready to provide proof of purchase when requested. The appliance must be no more than 12 years old at the time of renewal unless your appliance has been continuously covered since January 2023.

Furthermore, your agreement does not cover any damage caused by deliberate actions, misuse, modifications, neglect, or a lack of maintenance.

How does appliance insurance differ from a manufacturer's warranty?

A manufacturer’s warranty or appliance warranty is included with a new appliance purchase and covers faults for a set period. Appliance insurance is a separate monthly policy that covers mechanical and electrical breakdowns and accidental damage, and can be renewed annually for continued protection.

Can I cancel my appliance insurance policy at any time?

If you cancel your agreement within 14 days, you won’t have to pay a fee and we’ll refund any premiums already paid. If you cancel after the 14-day cooling-off period, you may be required to pay an additional premium for your remaining time on cover. A cancellation fee may also apply if you have made an accepted claim. To cancel your policy, you can send an email to [email protected] or call our helpline.

How do I make a claim if one of my covered appliances breaks down?

When you experience an unexpected appliance breakdown, you must report a claim within 24 hours of the incident. To make a claim, call our Claims Helpline at 0345 0774 177. After accepting your claim, we will discuss the timing of your repair or assistance with you via phone, email, or text.

We make every effort to schedule an appointment with the engineer to ensure that your repair is completed.

What happens if my appliance is beyond repair?

If your appliance is assessed as beyond economic repair and you have been continuously covered by us for at least 6 months, 24|7 Home Rescue will provide a voucher contribution towards a replacement.

The voucher value is based on the age of your appliance:

  • Under 5 years old: up to £1,000
  • Over 5 years old: calculated on current value with 10% annual depreciation applied
  • Over 12 years old: no voucher unless continuously covered by us since January 2023, in which case the maximum is £100
