If you have invested in kitchen appliance insurance with 24|7 Home Rescue, then you must call us to arrange a repair, and we’ll deal with the rest by trying our best to get your washing machine back up and running as quickly as possible.

But the main topic of this article is related to why the washing machine is not draining water. The following tips mentioned in this article could help you determine the problem’s source.

1. A small item is stuck in the drain pump

You may have wondered, “Where do all the odd socks disappear?” Many of them are sucked into your washing machine and find their way into the drainage outlets. Not just socks can get lost in washing machines, but keys, pens, packets of cigarettes, coins, money, and pretty much everything else can get lost in the wash.

Most of these items are expelled through drainage systems and do not cause a blockage, but if one gets caught up in the drain pump, this can prevent the pump from operating correctly and cause water to remain stuck in the drum. This is most likely the cause of your washer not draining. You will need to contact an engineer to resolve this problem.

2. An even smaller item is lodged in the drain hose

Another common issue as to why your washing machine is not draining could be that a penny, a lock of hair, or even just fluff and dust can become lodged in the drain hose or the pump housing, making it hard or even impossible for water to seep out of the washing machine.

While this issue is not particularly difficult for an engineer to repair, prevention is always better than cure, so check your pockets before you put clothes in the washing machine.

Engineers also occasionally deal with washing machine breakdowns caused by children putting small toys, such as Legos, into the appliance, so keep an eye on your kids and don’t turn the washing machine on if you suspect they have been messing around with it.

Blow through the drain hose to determine whether this is the problem. If it is difficult to blow through, there is likely a blockage somewhere.

3. Mechanical defects

Fortunately, mechanical defects usually present relatively quickly, and many people get these defects resolved before their washing machine warranty expires.

Nonetheless, years of use combined with wear and tear can cause these mechanical defects to worsen until one day, your washing machine is not draining, and water floods your floor.

Inexperienced people will almost certainly be unable to repair a washing machine fault regardless of the time they put into it; you’ll need to contact the experts.
