We love apprenticeships at 247 Home Rescue! Apprenticeships provide us with a great way to take on new young employees, offering people the on-the-job training that has proven so vital to our success and allowing us to boost the vocational skills of our workforce.
But apprenticeships aren’t just great for our company – they’re also incredibly useful for the apprentices themselves. The jobs market is harder than it has been for years, with school leavers and even university graduates finding it nigh-on impossible to get their first foot on the ladder. Many people are caught in a vicious circle, where they cannot successfully apply for jobs because they have no experience, but cannot gain experience because they cannot successfully apply for jobs. Apprenticeships provide a solution to this problem by supporting employers as they take on inexperienced workers and by supporting employees by giving them much-needed experience and workplace qualifications.
Therefore, we are throwing our full support behind National Apprenticeship Week 2014, which begins today (3rd March). The scheme, which is already in its seventh year, focuses on raising the profile of apprentices and apprenticeship schemes among the media, employers, parents, teachers and individual workers.
We have already released a press release to mark the occasion, which details some of the things the team at 247 Home Rescue has done for apprentices, as well as the great things our apprentices themselves have done for us. Apprenticeships are very important to us, enabling us to expand our workforce and train up high-quality staff, and helping us play our part to support the local community and help young people achieve employment success!
Research from IBM discovered that nearly half of all business in the UK intend to take on apprentices in the coming five years. The poll, of 600 enterprises, also found that around 20% of small to medium-sized firms plan to take on at least one apprentice in the next year, with this rising to around 33% among larger enterprises. Around a third of all companies that said they expect to take on apprentices said that doing so forms an essential element of their growth strategy.
Apprentices have added a lot of value to our organisation. We hope that, during this National Apprenticeship Week, other companies realise what 247 Home Rescue has realised and take steps to hire new apprentices to deliver on-the-job training and experience to people who need it the most.
