New research by comparison site uSwitch reveals that 52% of UK households would resort to using funds from their savings if their boiler was to breakdown.
Alternatively, 13% of households would take out a credit card or bank loan to cover the cost of repair.
This research comes to light as uSwitch encourage consumers to consider boiler plan as a way of protecting themselves against hefty, unexpected bills, as they report that UK homes have paid over a massive £787 million for boiler repairs in the last year alone.
The research also revealed that:
- One fifth of homes (almost five million) have experienced one or more boiler breakdowns in the past year.
- The average repair bill for these breakdowns was £270, but for 25% of those experiencing a breakdown, the repairs cost more than £1,250.
