A Darwen grandmother was left without central heating and hot water and a flooded storage room after ScottishPower failed to repair her boiler, despite the fact that she had taken out boiler breakdown cover.
Scottish Power boiler cover failings
June Eastham, 56, told the Lancashire Telegraph that she pays Scottish Power almost £100 a month for her gas and electricity supply and for other services, including boiler cover.
She said to the publication that her boiler broke down at the beginning of April, and Scottish Power sent an engineer to look at the boiler. This specialist recommended that the gas appliance should be fitted with a new part.
A week later, on Monday 14th April, someone visited Ms Eastham’s house and installed the new part, telling her that the appliance would work properly as a result of the gas boiler repair.
However, the following day, water began to drip through the kitchen ceiling, and Ms Eastham realised the room above had flooded. She told the newspaper that the carpet was floating, and she couldn’t even enter the room because boxes had fallen and blocked the door.
Since this date, she has called Scottish Power about her boiler cover service contract, and although they told her someone would come to examine the appliance on Thursday April 17th, nobody had done so as of Tuesday April 22nd.
She complained that the weather has been “freezing” and that she has had to boil her kettle to receive hot water. The water is causing significant damage to her house and the room is in a “state”, she added, saying the problem has really upset her.
Her daughter and her son-in-law have been trying to dry out the utility room, and Ms Eastham’s husband has even called Scottish Power from the Afghan military base he works in to try to resolve the situation.
A Scottish Power spokesperson told the Lancashire Telegraph that someone is due to visit Ms Eastham’s home to further investigate the leak. They offered their apologies for the problems in Ms Eastham’s boiler breakdown cover services.
