Staff from 24|7 Home Rescue donned their wackiest woollies for ‘Wear it Woolly Day’ to raise money for their charity partner, Age UK Blackburn with Darwen.
Employee’s from the customer service, claims and web teams raised a extraordinary amount of money for Age UK Blackburn with Darwen to improve local resources during this time of year.
They also donated money to the Wear it Woolly donation box and modelled their Age UK clip-on bobbles throughout the day.
The aim of the day was to raise awareness of the struggles older people face during the cold, winter months. Nationally, 40,000 older people are expected to die prematurely from the cold this winter with one in three being left unable to heat their homes properly due to high energy costs.
Operations Director, Hassan Khonat said: “The shocking figures serve as a saddening reminder that perhaps not enough is being done to protect older people during the winter months. The figures are the highest for 15 years, so it’s at times like these the partnership with Age UK makes perfect sense. We help, we repair, we care is our company motto and we hope we proved this in our fundraising efforts for such a worthwhile cause.”
PR Manager, Luke Marsden said: “It’s really important for us to take part because we all have grandparents or parents who could be at risk during this difficult time of year. Everyone has been really proactive in Wear it Woolly Day and we can’t wait to do more for Age UK Blackburn with Darwen.”
The company managed to raise over £75 on the day and were even visited by the local press to commemorate the day.
Chief Executive Officer of Age UK Blackburn with Darwen, Vicky Shepherd congratulated the company on their efforts: “Thank you for Wearing it Woolly for us today. Your donation will certainly help support our local services.”
